What is a Postpartum Doula?
What is a Postpartum Doula and what do they do?
Postpartum Doulas fill an important role in providing emotional, physical, and evidence-based informational support to the new family after the birth of their baby. Postpartum Doulas support the mother's physical and emotional recovery, give education and instruction where needed on infant care and feeding, and assist with household organization and preparation. A Postpartum Doula can be a resource and advocate you need in screening for postpartum mood disorders, watching for concerns with healing whether you delivered vaginally or by cesarean. Some example tasks we may do: watch baby while you shower, nap, get some sunshine, or anything else that makes you feel more human; we can walk your dog, prep bottles, meal prep, light cleaning/organizing, grocery pickup; breast and bottle feeding assist/support; or just sit and chat about all the concerns, changes, and struggles you might have. Imagine wrapping a grandmother's wisdom, a seasoned mother's nurturing spirit, and a best girlfriend's support all in one human to help you through this time.
